I found the advice and service I received from Dean at findaleak.co.nz absolutely invaluable. In the first instance, I found the information on his website extremely helpful for understanding how thermal imaging, moisture reading and invasive testing might help me. Then, when I initially phoned Dean (more than once while I was making my decision!), he was happy to freely give out advice and information over the phone. When I finally booked an appointment with Dean, he was able to meet me at short notice, arrived right on time and as he went around examining the house, explained what he saw and what he was doing for me in a way that was very easy to understand. He was both patient and very clear at answering all my questions and was also open to being flexible about producing a written report for me (as I was initially unsure if I wanted that option). We were in the process of purchasing a property, when thanks to Deans thermal imaging techniques, it was discovered that there were leaks in the property and would take major re-cladding to repair the damage. Fortunately in the purchase and sale agreement, we stipulated that the agreement would go ahead dependent on a positive builders report, which included thermal imaging.

After hearing the horror stories of people trapped into leaky home deals I made thermal imaging a condition of the sale and purchase contract. I was very please to find that the house was not damp but thanks to the dampness meter we were able to uncover an internal leaky mains water pipe in the garage. It had been leaking for some time and caused rotten timber framework and black mould. Uncovering this damage after purchase would have been very costly and stressful. Dean was very good at explaining the techniques he used and recommendations to reduce moisture levels after purchase. I would not buy another home without this inspection. We have lived for some time in an old weather board cottage which we have renovated over a period of years. Recently we discovered a leak, so we googled “find a leak” and found a comprehensive and detailed website of the same name.
